‘Boring’ is good for Bradford Bulls boss Brian Noble

BRADFORD BULLS coach Brian Noble has told his players: “Don’t get bored of being boring.”

The seasoned supremo is keen to provide the kind of entertaining action which will help draw in more fans and in turn boost the bid to bring Super League rugby back to the city.

But he believes that is built on the foundations provided by solid and ingrained playing systems, and explained: “I suppose some could be called boring, but they help bring results, and we need to reinforce them.”

Bradford top the fledgling table ahead of the third round of the Championship, and take on Toulouse in France on Saturday, seeking a third win after beating London Broncos 20-6 at Bartercard Odsal and Hunslet 38-20 at the South Leeds Stadium.

But Noble insists his side are very much a work in progress, and says the second half at Hunslet, when Bradford scored eight points while conceding 14, showed that.

“We didn’t do some of the things which have been going really well for us, and it was disappointing to concede those points, because we set ourselves high standards.” he explained.

“The first half was good in the main, but there were some things in the second half we should have coped with better, and we made the game harder than it should have been, given the position we had put ourselves in at half-time.

“It’s still two wins from two, and things move on quickly in sport, but our mantra is to learn lessons and get better every week, and that’s what we need to do.”

Noble handed first outings of the year to hooker Tyran Ott, second rower Bayley Liu, who has been signed from Sheffield, and prop Nathan Mason against Hunslet.

“I was pleased with them,” he said.

“They all made their mark, and while their engines need a bit of work, that will come.

“They are putting pressure on our selection processes, which is good.”
