GOOLE VIKINGS prop Jack Coventry is grateful to be working under former England front-row star Scott Taylor.
Well-travelled Coventry has been an ever-present for the newly-professional side, appearing in all six matches to date including knockout wins over London Broncos and North Wales Crusaders.
He joined Goole, coached by ex-Hull FC forward Taylor, after spending last season with Hunslet, making the East Yorkshire side his sixth permanent club in a ten-year career.
As well as two spells at Hunslet, Coventry has featured for Featherstone, Keighley, Oldham and Dewsbury, amassing more than 90 third-tier appearances including play-offs.
“It’s been a breath of fresh air,” said the 31-year-old. “Everyone has been so welcoming to myself and my family. It’s all really exciting for me.”
“Being able to work with someone like Scott, who played in the middle like me, is a real advantage. I’m trying to be a sponge and take in as much as possible.
“Some of these lads have played at the very highest level, and the professionalism they bring to training is massive. It’s pushing everyone to be better.”
Goole play North Wales again on Sunday, but will this time host the fixture at Westfield Banks Sports Complex, home of Goole’s rugby union club.
Redevelopment work at their Victoria Pleasure Ground is progressing, and the Vikings don’t have another home fixture until July.
