ROCHDALE HORNETS have signed versatile halfback Joe Lowe on a deal until the end of this season.
Wigan-born Lowe spent much of his early life in Australia, enjoying three years playing for Sunshine Coast Falcons in the Queensland Cup.
He returned to the UK at the start of 2023, initially on trial with Swinton, and went on to feature eight times for the club in all competitions after impressing during their pre-season fixtures.
From there, he completed a move to France’s Elite 2 competition. He has been there ever since, representing Tonneins, who are based in the Lot-et-Garonne region.
Having contacted Hornets seeking a return to the UK following the conclusion of the French domestic campaign, the 24-year-old who is also capable of operating at fullback has made the switch.
He was presented to supporters during half-time of Saturday’s home game against Midlands Hurricanes.
Rochdale coach Gary Thornton said: “He has previously played in the Championship for Swinton, so brings valuable experience to our group.
“He will also provide real strength in depth. He’s a skilful pivot and can run a gameplan, and we are looking forward to welcoming him into our group.”
Lowe was called up to the Scotland squad for their international against Ireland in October, and was named as 18th man.
