Willie Peters confirms four-month absence for Hull KR star following surgery

WILLIE PETERS has confirmed that Oliver Gildart will be out for four months following the Hull KR star’s surgery.

Gildart injured his knee in Rovers’ demolition of the Salford Red Devils at the Magic Weekend and missed last week’s Challenge Cup semi-final win over Catalans Dragons.

Now Peters has revealed the extent of the centre’s lay-off.

“The squad is reasonably healthy. We’ve lost Oliver Gildart which is a massive blow,” Peters said.

“He has had his surgery and has a long recovery ahead of him. It will be the longer lay-off for Oliver.

“We are looking at that four-month recovery now.

“He has only just had the operation and it’s happened pretty quickly. It will be in a few weeks’ time once he realises that he won’t be playing in the Challenge Cup and big games.”

After acknowledging such a blow, Peters praised Gildart for the way in which he has gone about his business in 2025 after preparing admirably during pre-season.

“He has been a huge part of what we have done,” said Peters. “He has put his best foot forward from day one and has played in every game up until now.

“He has been an important player in our team. It’s his wellbeing that is the most important.”

The KR boss said he wouldn’t dip into the market to replace Gildart, even though mid-season recruits Arthur Mourgue and Noah Booth are both ineligible in the Challenge Cup final next month.

“We are okay in Super League in terms of having Arthur Mourgue and Noah Booth but they aren’t available for the cup and obviously we lost Oli,” he said.

“There’s not much we can do there in terms of bringing players in. The cut-off was last week to bring anyone in (for the Challenge Cup final) so we have to manage it and get through it.”
