DANNY MCGUIRE is preparing his side for Sunday as normal as Salford Red Devils have been hit with a winding up petition.
The Castleford Tigers boss explains that he “feels sorry” for Salford head coach Paul Rowley following the trials and tribulations at the Red Devils.
But McGuire is readying his chargers as best as possible for Sunday’s Super League fixture.
“I’ve not heard anything to suggest that the game won’t be on,” McGuire said.
“We said this the last time we played them so we have just trained and are preparing to play on Sunday.
“Unless somebody tells me otherwise, we are preparing for the best version of Salford.
“I feel sorry for Paul Rowley and the players, they have been through a lot but we have to put ourselves in the best position to win.”
Castleford’s last result in Super League was a 32-8 hammering by Wakefield Trinity at the Magic Weekend – and McGuire has had his players working hard to make things right.
“We’ve worked. We had a couple of days after the game to let it sink in and then we came back in and reviewed and have been working,” McGuire continued.
“We have not had much time off because we felt like we needed to use the time wisely. We have done everything.
“The game at Magic was disappointing, I don’t feel like we did ourselves justice. We did some things we had been going away from and they crept back in.
“We are all frustrated and we have done some really nice things this week and are in a position to put Magic behind us.”
McGuire has hinted that changes could be made for the fixture on Sunday.
“We have identified some areas where we got beat by Wakefield where we didn’t compete and we have been working on that in practice.
“We knows what works for us. There potentially will be changes here and there with players knocking at the door who deserve a chance.
“Louis Senior and Sam Hall got a good run out with the reserves and they are in contention to play this week.
“Jordan Dezaria has gone back to Catalans and will probably not come back. Hugo Salabio is with us until the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, there has been a hit of good news with Jeremiah Simbiken set to be out for 8-10 weeks rather than the 16 first revealed, though McGuire is still on the lookout for new blood.
“Jeremiah Simbiken got better news after his operation and could potentially be out for 8-10 weeks rather than 16 weeks which helps us a little bit.
“We are still light in the back-row so if anything came up signing wise we would have a look there.
“We will see how things pan out. I’m happy with the players we’ve got at the minute and they have the chance to show me that I’m right by sticking by them.”
