CATALANS DRAGONS head coach Steve McNamara was hugely disappointed with his side’s performance in a 40-0 defeat at St Helens.
“When you start like that and you concede two tries in the first ten minutes against a team that is pretty dangerous – maybe they were lacking a bit in confidence but you give them that confidence when you start like that,” he said.
“Then you compound that with a less than 70 percent completion rate, you have five play-the-ball errors when you’re in possession, you give penalties away and six-agains away.
“You give the opposition, I think, 17 or 18 more sets than we did, on the back of what we’ve been through the last couple weeks, it’s gonna hurt and we got the scoreline we deserved at the end, simple as that.
“You put those things together, it’s an impossible task.
“We’ve had three consecutive games away and we stayed over (in England) last week for the (Challenge Cup) semi-final.
“But we were ready to play today. I really felt we were ready.
“We’re clearly missing a lot of players, clearly some senior players and leaders in fact, so when you do that to yourself you’re gonna put yourself in a position where the scoreboard can look like that.”
