RFL meet with Salford Red Devils for first time following player strike threat

THE Rugby Football League will meet with Salford Red Devils for the first time following a player strike threat.

All Out Rugby League recently revealed that a number of Salford players have reportedly threatened to pull out of their Super League fixture with Leeds Rhinos this weekend following renewed uncertainty surrounding the club’s financial position.

The bridging loan that was set to assure the short-term future of Salford and enable players and staff to be paid has yet to arrive at the club.

RFL officials, with chief executive Tony Sutton at the helm, has called for a meeting with all parties at Salford’s stadium to attempt to come to sort of agreement.

“We can confirm that the RFL will be part of a meeting at the club tomorrow, with players, the club, the RFL and RL Cares present,” an RFL spokesperson said.

On the field, the Red Devils registered their second win of the Super League campaign last weekend, with a 26-22 victory over Castleford Tigers.
