LEIGH LEOPARDS head coach Adrian Lam has admitted he has been tracking PNG powerhouse Jacob Alick-Wiencke since he was 17.
The 25-year-old has quit the NRL to link up with Lam at the Leopards.
Alick-Wiencke had most recently been playing for Gold Coast Titans, but left the club at the end of the 2025 campaign with his contract not being renewed.
And Lam admits that he has been tracking the 25-year-old for eight years.
“I know Jacob, I’ve been tracking Jacob for a long time since he was 17,” said Lam.
“There’s always going to be links with PNG players coming to Super League, but any signings that we’ve made or players that we are interested in or the retention side of things will be announced in the press in the next few weeks.”
Lam envisages Leigh making “about half a dozen signings” for next season, a smaller turnaround than in previous years.
He said: “I think there was 13 last year and 12 the year before that. There has been meaning behind all of that.”
Leigh have also been linked with a move for former Manly Sea Eagles forward Ben Condon, who has been plying his trade with Widnes Vikings in 2025.
The Leopards had been linked with Condon last year before the back-rower’s move fell through for medical reasons.
Now, All Out Rugby League is once more reporting that Condon has failed a medical with a move to Leigh falling through for a second time after his release by Widnes.
But Lam held his cards to his chest, saying: “It’s the same as everything else. The players we are interested in or have talked to, if there’s anything that could be shared with the media then we will do that in due time.”
