FEATHERSTONE ROVERS have explained the creation of one of two new companies by board member Mark Campbell, who is leading the club’s bid to survive a number of major financial challenges.
The 60-year-old former Featherstone player and chairman is the sole director of both Rovers Events Ltd and Rovers Retail Ltd, which were both incorporated on September 26.
Featherstone, who have lost experienced halfback Ben Reynolds to Batley and hooker Connor Jones to Doncaster and will be fearing further player exits, face an uncertain future.
The adjournment until December of an HMRC winding-up order over a reported £120,000 tax bill has at least provided some additional time amid attempts to deal with a number of monetary issues.
The club say setting up Rovers Events ensure existing bookings at the Millennium Stadium can be met and that stock can be managed.
Featherstone hosted both an international between Ireland and Wales and the BARLA National Cup final between Orrell St James and Brighouse Rangers over the weekend.
Featherstone coaching team member Ged Corcoran is in charge of Ireland.
A club statement explained: “Our priority is to avoid any disruption to the community of Featherstone and we are committed to ensuring that weddings, sports functions and other events proceed as planned.
“The new account also enables greater transparency behind the scenes, helping us monitor outgoings and maintain operational continuity.
“By doing so, we can safeguard the use of the clubhouse and stadium for all scheduled functions without interruption.
“We hope this clarifies the reasoning behind the change and we appreciate your continued support.
“Whether you’re attending an event or planning one of your own – be it a business conference, meeting, or celebration – we encourage you to consider Rovers Events and the clubhouse as your venue of choice.”
Campbell returned to the helm of the club, who have played at senior level since 1921, as Paddy Handley, also a former player, stepped down as Chairman in September.
Handley had replaced Campbell as chairman in August 2024.
