FIVE North American cities are being boldly targeted to make rugby league a truly global sport.
With the success of the NRL’s Las Vegas extravaganza – which Super League became a part of for the first time this year – Australian Rugby League Commission (ARLC) chairman Peter V’landys is on a crusade to conquer North America.
According to The Mole at the Wide World of Sports, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Honolulu are targets to host matches in the 2030 World Cup, which appears the International Rugby League is keen to see hosted in the USA.
Officials from Super League and the NRL have already met in the UK during the Ashes series to discuss future expansion.
The World Cup was high up on the list of priorities, with the IRL expected to confirm the 2030 tournament hosts in the next few months.
Kenya, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and South Africa also applied to host the World Cup in 2030.
