Swinton Lions sign ex-Cornwall man Kye Jacobson

SWINTON LIONS have signed Australian centre or back-rower Kye Jacobson for next season.

Jacobson moved to the UK to join Cornwall ahead of last season, making three appearances before the club folded in April.

The 23-year-old had a trial with Workington Town shortly afterwards but was unable to get the game time hoped for to prove his worth for a deal.

Swinton believe Jacobson can be a significant addition, with head coach Paul Wood saying: “After watching some of his footage it was quite evident that he ticked a lot of boxes that would strengthen us.

“His size and his power are big assets – he’s the type of player who can take a team forward and get us on the front foot.”

Jacobson said: “Talking to Paul about the direction the club is heading for the new season in the newly-formed Championship, and being able to be part of a club which not only has such a long and successful history but one that also helped build rugby league to what it is today, it made the decision easy and I cannot wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, Deane Meadows has signed a new deal with the Lions.

Versatile forward Meadows returned to the club for a second spell in July and made two appearances.

Wood said of the 31-year-old: “He adds valuable experience to what is still a relatively young team, and it’s great to have him around the group.”
