Prince William hails ‘inspiring’ Kevin Sinfield for latest MND challenge

KEVIN SINFIELD completed his latest fundraising challenge on familiar territory at AMT Headingley on Sunday and urged the crowds: “We’ve got to keep fighting for the MND Community.”

The 45-year-old, again running in memory of his old Leeds Rhinos teammate Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019 and died last year aged 41, surpassed his target of £777,777 after five of his seven ultramarathons in as many days.

For the last leg of his ‘7 in 7: Together’ 185-mile challenge, which took in areas across the UK and Ireland, Sinfield, who had already raised more than £10million from five previous events, set off from Queen Ethelburga’s College in the village of Thorpe Underwood near York.

On arriving in north Leeds, he joined thousands taking part in a Santa Dash at Leeds Beckett University.

“To the MND Community and the people we’ve met on route, all through the last week, all through the past five years, to everybody we’ve met – you’re an absolutely beautiful community,” he said.

The Prince of Wales offered his “huge congratulations” to Sinfield as he closed in on finishing.

In a message posted on social media, Prince William praised his commitment to Leeds legend Burrow and everyone affected by MND as “truly inspiring”.

The Prince added: “Thank you for shining a light on the need for research and support, and for the hope and example you bring.”
