Will Dagger eager to claim York Knights fullback berth

WILL DAGGER has the bit between his teeth to earn the fullback shirt at York Knights, according to head coach Mark Applegarth.

Dagger played just seven times for the Knights during an injury-hit 2025 campaign, but he has now signed a full-time deal with York for their maiden season in Super League for 2026.

The 26-year-old joined the club for 2024 from Wakefield Trinity, having also played in the top flight for Warrington Wolves and Hull KR.

In two seasons so far at York, Dagger has made 21 appearances, scoring six tries and 59 goals with the playmaker also making four appearances for York on dual-registration from Hull KR in 2018.

Applegarth has backed Dagger to deliver in 2026, saying: “He got a bit of an injury that disrupted his year last year, so he had to be really patient, trying to wait for his way back in the team.

“But he’s come back in really good shape and he looks like he’s got the bit between his teeth to earn that number one shirt back.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”

Dagger himself said: “We are in a new league and it’s a new challenge.

“Myself, the lads and the coaching staff are all up for it and we can’t wait to do the city proud.”
