CHAMPIONSHIP title hopefuls London Broncos have released their squad numbers – with a pre-season match at Keighley Cougars, one of coach Jason Demetriou’s former clubs, on Sunday, January 11 confirmed.
The visit to Yorkshire, where the kick-off is 3.00, comes seven days before the capital side’s league opener at home to Widnes Vikings.
The Broncos launched an extensive recruitment drive in the wake of a takeover by former Australia captain Darren Lockyer and his business partner Grant Wechsel.
Papua New Guinea and former South Sydney Rabbitohs team chief Demetriou has been handed the reins and tasked with winning the newly-merged second tier to support the club’s bid to earn Super League status under the IMG grading system.
His player pool includes former Kangaroos and New South Wales prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard (number 8, pictured) and is packed with PNG internationals.
Five of those, fullback Morea Morea (1), centre Robert Mathias (3), halfbacks Finley Glare (14) and Gairo Voro (23) and prop Epel Kapinias (16) helped the Kumuls win this year’s Pacific Bowl under Demetriou, who was Keighley player-coach in 2011 and 2012.
He has also brought Papua New Guinean centre Alex Max (4) and secondrow Jeremiah Simbiken (25), who has joined from Castleford Tigers, as well as Tonga hooker Siliva Havili (13) from South Sydney.
The 29-strong squad includes 19 new faces, with winger Neil Tchamambe (26) recruited on a season-long loan from Wakefield Trinity.
