Warrington Wolves fan in hospital after fight at pre-season game

A WARRINGTON WOLVES supporter is in hospital after a fight broke out following Friday’s pre-season game against Widnes Vikings.

A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured, according to Cheshire Police, after an incident on Winwick Road, adjacent to the Halliwell Jones Stadium

Police are investigating disorder both during and after the match, which Warrington won 50-12.

Warrington said on Saturday that they were “aware of an incident involving one of our supporters that occurred last night, who was taken to hospital and is currently receiving medical care.

“We are offering our full support to the family and are working closely with the police, and Widnes Vikings in relation to the incident.”

Widnes said: “Our thoughts are with the individual involved and their family at this time.

“We are offering our full support and are working closely with Cheshire Police and Warrington Wolves in relation to the incident.”

On Saturday, police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy from Widnes had been arrested on suspicion of assault.

A spokesperson for the RFL said the governing body is “aware of events that took place at the game between Warrington Wolves and Widnes Vikings last night.
