ROCHDALE washed away Waterhead’s hopes of a Challenge Cup upset to seal a home third-round showdown with Wigan, defeating their hosts 60-6 in a game played at Oldham RUFC.
It will be Hornets’ first meeting with the Cherry and Whites since the 1994-95 season, when they were beaten 34-12 at the old Central Park in round two of the Regal Trophy when Kris Radlinski, then playing on the wing for Wigan and now their chief executive, chalked up a hat-trick of tries.
In other games there were record scores by London Broncos, who defeated London community club Wests Warriors 86-0 to earn a home third-round tie against Bradford Bulls; North Wales Crusaders, who defeated Bedford Tigers 110-0 and will now face Leigh Leopards in two weeks’ time; Goole Vikings, who defeated Mirfield Spartans 58-4; and Midlands Hurricanes also registered a record 110-0 win against Aberavon Fighting Irish.
No community club defeated a Championship side, although Lock Lane will face Hull KR in round three after going through because they should have been drawn against Featherstone Rovers.
