JAI FIELD has declared himself “very content” at Wigan Warriors after explaining that, whilst there is an “itch” in terms of the NRL, he doesn’t want to throw away his success in Super League.
Fullback Field has been a revelation for the Warriors since making the move from Parramatta Eels ahead of the 2021 campaign.
The livewire struggled for fitness during his first season in the northern hemisphere and has endured some difficult injuries across his six years at the club so far.
However, the 28-year-old has become a key part of Wigan’s success under Peet, winning two Super League Grand Finals, three Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge.
Field has expressed his gratitude about making the move at such a young age, saying: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.
“We have had some success but I have had some injuries as well.
“All in all, I wouldn’t change it for anything. The best thing I ever did was come over here and take that leap at a young age.”
Throughout his time at Wigan, Field has been frequently linked with a return to Australia.
He is tied to Wigan only until the end of next year, with options in his contract to extend through to 2029.
“I feel every now and then you want to scratch that itch and go back, but then again, I’m very content here,” said Field.
“We are building something special here as a club and with the group we have.
“So, I don’t really know if I would want to throw all that away to scratch that itch.”
While Field was signed by previous Wigan coach Adrian Lam, he’s been working under Matt Peet since 2022.
“Matt Peet has been really great for me,” he said.
“The confidence and belief he instils in us to play what we see suits us all.
“We do have structured things but the belief he has to play our game is massive for me.”
