WIDNES VIKINGS coach Allan Coleman believes Australian signing Max Banditt will make an impression this season and beyond.

The 23-year-old forward has joined from Queensland Cup side Souths Logan Magpies, for whom he has played 17 times this season.

Banditt previously featured for Ipswich Jets in the same competition and has had a train-and-trial stint at Sydney Roosters.

He has made 38 QC appearances overall and represented Queensland Universities while studying physiotherapy.

Widnes, who are plotting a Championship play-off bid and face London Broncos in the 1895 Cup final at Warrington on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, have signed him on a contract to the end of next season with the option of a further year.

“Max is a big, powerful, strong boy, young and really hungry for the game, and he’s got a fantastic attitude towards it,” said Coleman.

“He’s been playing Queensland Cup, which is a really good level, and it’s fantastic work from the board to bring him here.

“I’m over the moon. It’s the right time for us to bring some real competition into the squad for the 1895 Cup final and the play-offs.”

Banditt said: “After playing in the Queensland Cup for the past few years, and spending a period with the Sydney Roosters, I’m really excited to have the opportunity to come over to England and represent a club with the history and tradition of Widnes Vikings.

“I’m looking forward to getting over, meeting the boys, and hopefully making a strong contribution to the team.

“There are important goals to achieve this season, so I’m excited to get straight into it and play my part.

“Beyond that I’m looking forward to building something with the club through 2027 and 2028, and looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

Widnes, currently sixth in the table, say Banditt will come into contention for their game at Halifax Panthers on Sunday.
