WIGAN WARRIORS coach Denis Betts praised the attitude of his whole squad now that the Super Four stage of the season has started.
Following a three-week gap after the first half of the campaign, the Warriors returned to action with a 44-6 win at St Helens before a 44-0 home victory over York on Saturday.
With a league title to defend there has been no let-up from Wigan, which is something Betts has been pleased to see.
“We worked really hard over the break and the girls have to take a lot of credit for that,” he said.
“We gave them a bit of a rest between the St Helens and Featherstone games before the break where the girls got some energy back.
“With a lot of them then on international duty there was a big batch of them that we couldn’t really do much with, but we kept the rest of the girls together and worked really hard.
“We know this six-week block of games will be tough and physical so we need to train hard because thinking we can just turn up is going to hurt us.
“We know what we want to do and achieve this season and one of the mantras we’ve always had is that I want training to play a big part in how we perform.
“The girls want to play in these big games and be tested and have to turn up, so we can’t just walk through the week waiting for gameday.”
Versatile back Georgia Wilson returned to the team to face York on Saturday after missing the St Helens game through a minor whiplash injury, giving Betts a near full-strength squad to pick from.
“Going forward I am going to have some headaches over selection,” admitted the boss, who also welcomed threequarter Ruby Hunter back to the squad.
“I’ll have some tough decisions to make and some people are going to love me and some aren’t, but that’s the way this job works.”
