WIGAN WARRIORS want to keep Patrick Mago at the club beyond the end of the current season, head coach Matt Peet has revealed.
Impact bench forward Mago, who has made 146 appearances for the Warriors since joining ahead of the 2022 campaign, is out of contract at the end of 2026.
However, the deal he signed in May 2024 has the option for a further year in the club’s favour.
The 31-year-old New Zealander continues to be one of Wigan’s most consistent performers and Peet is keen to get something sorted for Mago’s future.
“I’m sure there will be an announcement in the coming weeks but we are not yet at that point,” Peet said.
“We are working to keep him and he is keen to stay. Hopefully we can get that sorted.
“He’s such an important part of the group and has become a bit of a cult hero here.”
Mago is the final off-contract senior player at Wigan, with fellow prop Sam Eseh heading to Bradford Bulls when his deal finishes.
The Warriors have won two Super League Grand Finals, three Challenge Cup finals and a World Club Challenge during Mago’s time at the club, and he’s come off the bench in all six of those triumphs.
