JIM LENIHAN believes Huddersfield Giants made “a step in the right direction” despite falling to defeat against Warrington Wolves.
The Giants pushed Wire all the way as they went down 34-24, their first loss in five.
Although he was disappointed, Lenihan was proud of the way his side performed and praised the way they refused to lie down and let Warrington run away with the game.
“I thought the first 15-25 minutes was pretty strong,” said Lenihan.
“But then we had some penalties and six-agains against us and the turn of possession went away from us. I think we came in at half-time with 37 percent of the ball, and they had 63.
“With Warrington coming off a short turnaround, it was probably less than ideal for us.
“We came out in the second half and competed again. We probably had a couple of silly things go against us that we didn’t quite get right, but the way we fought on and tried to go to the end, I honestly thought there was a chance we were going win it at the back end. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be.
“There was a point of the game where we could have let go, but we didn’t. We physically fought, kept taking them on and nearly got away with it.
“The way we hung in there and took it right to the very end is a step in the right direction for us as a football club.”
