WIDNES VIKINGS coach Allan Coleman will ring the changes for his side’s Championship clash at Sheffield Eagles tomorrow.

His 20-man squad includes seven short-term loanees, two players from the club’s Under 19 development team and three trialists from the community game.

The match comes just four days before Widnes’ 1895 Cup final meeting with London Broncos at Warrington on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

It had to be rearranged after originally being due to take place on Sunday, and the Vikings expressed concerns over fixture congestion.

Widnes, bound for the play-offs, are highly likely to finish fifth whatever the outcome against Sheffield, who are sure to be seventh.

The Vikings already had hooker Aiden Doolan (pictured) and outside back Alfie Lindsey on loan from Castleford Tigers. Doolan played in Sunday’s 40-12 home win over Workington Town.

Now Widnes have brought in three more Castleford players – centre Sean Coughlan, halfback Jenson Windley and backrow Sam Grice.

In addition, outside back Max Rhodes has been borrowed from Leeds Rhinos and prop Layton Jupp from Leigh Leopards.

The two Vikings Under 19s in contention to play are hooker Declan Rigby and secondrow Zak Bennett.

The trio from the community game are Wigan St Patricks centre Ben Harper, Thatto Heath Crusaders halfback Ryan Forshaw and Leigh Miners Rangers hooker Jack Hamer.

Doolan is one of only five players in action against Workington who are in the squad to face Sheffield. They include centre Jumah Sambou, who is on a season-long loan from Hull KR.

“It’s also a special moment for two of our Under 19s, Declan Rigby and Zak Bennett, as they become the first two players from our Future Vikings Programme to be named in a first-team squad.”
