WARRINGTON WOLVES have earned a rest after their fourth win in 16 days, says Sam Burgess.
They continued their strong run of form ahead of the play-offs with a 16-14 victory at Hull FC, although that appeared to come at an injury cost.
“I’m very proud today, more so on the mental side,” reflected coach Burgess.
“I liked their attitude today. I thought we controlled the game for the majority. We looked comfortable, but we’ll have to work harder.
“It was a tough day for points and we looked more tired than last week.
“We’ll have a couple of days rest, without doing too much thinking over the next few days.”
As well as centre Arron Lindop failing a head-injury assessment at the beginning, Warrington lost forwards Joe Philbin (leg) and Luke Thomas (hamstring).
“Tommo’s still not great, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed on him,” said Burgess.
“Philbin has aggravated his previous injury so after a few scans, we’ll have to wait and see.”
Burgess also explained that returning fullback Josh Thewlis and Leon Hayes were managing issues, hence captain George Williams kicking their goals.
He said: “Leon had a strain in his quad and we felt he was most at risk kicking, and, with Josh coming back with his groin, we didn’t want to aggravate that.
“George is a competent enough kicker, and Danny Walker put his hand up too.”
