GOOLE VIKINGS will go into next season with a new coach, retiring second rower Brett Ferres replacing Hull FC-bound Scott Taylor, who will become part of incoming team chief Steve McNamara’s staff.
But they will be without at least seven of this year’s squad following the announcement of a string of departures, with Connor Barley, Jeylan Hodgson and Cooper Howlett all said to be switching to Super League, backrower Nick Staveley to a Championship rival and highly-rated halfback Jack Miller taking time out of the game.
Barley, the 21-year-old former Hull KR outside back, could be linking up with Taylor at Hull after a bright campaign that has brought 20 tries in 23 outings.
Hooker Hodgson, 21, who came through the ranks at Hull and has been with Goole since last season, is being linked with Huddersfield.
Australian centre or second rower Howlett, 25, joined Goole after impressing with Workington in 2025.
Hull product Staveley, 22, was signed from Sheffield twelve months ago after a number of Goole loan appearances in 2025 as he recovered from a knee injury.
Miller, 31, came through the Huddersfield development system to play one first-team game, and after a stint in Australia, turned out for Doncaster, Keighley, with whom he won the 2022 Betfred League One Player of the Year award, Newcastle and Rochdale before joining Goole ahead of this season.
Also leaving are wingers Ben Hodder and Baily Tait.
“The progression of Connor, Jeylan and Cooper represents another proud milestone for the Vikings, with the club delighted to have played a part in providing the platform for all three players to take the next step in their professional careers,” said Goole.
“Jack Miller is under contract for 2027, but the club respect his decision and will retain his registration should he be ready to return at some stage.”
