ST HELENS have signed Canterbury Bulldogs halfback Sean O’Sullivan for the 2027 season.
The 28-year-old also has NRL experience with Sydney Roosters, Brisbane Broncos, New Zealand Warriors, Penrith Panthers and the Dolphins.
Whilst at the Panthers, he deputised alongside Nathan Cleary in 2022 as the Panthers won their second of four consecutive NRL titles. He also played a key role in Penrith’s New South Wales Cup-winning team that year.
O’Sullivan, who has made a total of 66 NRL appearances, albeit just six of them this year with the Bulldogs, becomes St Helens’ third recruit ahead of next season under new head coach Kevin Walters, with Solomona Faataape and Christian Tuipulotu also joining the club.
His length of contract has not been disclosed but media reports suggest he has signed for only one year, just as Jackson Hastings – the half he is likely replacing, despite his recently stated hopes to remain at the club – did.
O’Sullivan said: “I can’t put it into words just how excited I am to come over and to be coming to a club like St Helens.
“It was a no-brainer for me, and now my family and I can’t wait to get over and be part of the club.
“With the players at Saints and Kevvie (Kevin Walters) coming in, it made so much footy sense for me to join. I feel like my strengths can really help this group achieve.
“I’ve bumped into Kevvie over in Australia, and once he was announced as the coach, it showed the ambitions of the club.
“All my talks with him have been super positive, and I know that he and I are going to get on really well, which is a big part of me wanting to come to St Helens, because I think he can help my footy a lot.”
Saints are also said to be interested in Canberra Raiders hooker Tom Starling.
