THE Super League semi-final clash between Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity not only impressed in terms of the product on the field, it also impressed in terms of viewing figures.

The fixture, which saw Wakefield inflict a remarkable 33-6 victory over the Warriors, had an average audience of 335,000 on BBC2 with a peak of 451,000.

That equated to a 3.5 percent of the audience share and was the most watched BBC2 programme on Saturday.

Sky Sports also screened the match, but do not make their viewing figures available.

To compare, Warrington Wolves’ win over Hull KR the previous week had an average of 231,000 viewers on the same channel and a peak of 295,000.

That equated to a 2.7 percent share of the audience.
