Hull KR future is ‘bright and exciting’ says chairman Paul Sewell

HULL KR chairman Paul Sewell believes the Super League club will compete strongly in 2027 after a disappointing end to Willie Peters’ tenure.

Despite lifting the World Club Challenge in February by beating Brisbane Broncos, Rovers failed to win a domestic trophy in 2026 – though they did make the Challenge Cup Final, where they were beaten heavily, 40-10, by Wigan Warriors.

After a stunning 2025 – when Rovers completed the domestic treble – the Robins’ relative decline left some questioning whether their time in the sun had ended.

However, that could not be further from the truth for Sewell, who was appointed to the Hull KR Board as chairman in December 2022 and, since then, has seen Rovers reach six major finals, winning three.

And he believes that his club is still very much on an upward trajectory and he is eyeing an improvement in 2027.

“The future is bright and exciting,” Sewell said.

“We have made a breakthrough in terms of brand awareness and we must capitalise on that.

“Now we must build on what has been achieved to create a sustainable and positive future.

“This club used to look to the future with a lot of loyalty and a bit of hope, but now we have added real achievement to give belief, esteem and a confidence that anything is possible. That’s powerful.

“We have a new coach, once more Australian, and our world champion squad is largely intact, so we will be super competitive next year.

“We will be breaking new ground on our new sports campus and we have another exciting musical offering on the cards for Craven Park.

“I can’t see that there is anything not to like about where we are heading.”
