Jake Bibby signs on at Salford as squad-building surge continues

SALFORD have sealed a deal for outside back Jake Bibby after his departure from Oldham.

The 31-year-old represented the former Salford Red Devils in Super League, starting his senior career there after coming through the development system and playing for them in the 2019 Grand Final.

Bibby is happy to be on board as Salford aim to climb the table after this year’s twelfth-place finish following a scramble to make the starting line in the wake of the winding up of the previous club last December.

The 23-6 Grand Final defeat by St Helens at Old Trafford was the last of 78 Red Devils appearances across five seasons. He scored his 36th try for the club in that match.

Bibby then joined hometown team Wigan Warriors, notching 27 tries in 74 outings which included the 8-4 Grand Final loss to St Helens at the KC (now MKM) Stadium in Hull and 16-14 victory over Huddersfield Giants in the 2022 Challenge Cup final at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

He then had three seasons at Huddersfield, scoring 18 tries in 62 games, before spending this year at Oldham, crossing 17 times in 29 appearances as the Roughyeds finished third and reached the penultimate stage of the play-offs.

“I never thought I’d make it as a rugby player, but I got my chance here,” he said.

Salford have another of the former club’s old stars returning in ex-Warrington Wolves halfback Marc Sneyd while winger Mike Butt has switched from Widnes Vikings.
