FORMER London Broncos captain Will Lovell has announced his retirement from rugby league.
The 33-year-old is the capital club’s record appearance maker, having played 210 times across 15 years.
He contributed to three Championship title wins including two promotions, and was Broncos captain between 2020 and 2025.
A PE teacher by trade, Northampton-born Lovell stayed on as a part-time player this season amid heavy investment into the club and its playing squad, and added a further twelve appearances to his record – surpassing Steele Retchless’ tally of 202 in an 1895 Cup victory over Keighley Cougars in April – as London won a second-tier treble.
Mike Eccles, their director of rugby and former head coach, said: “Will Lovell’s name will rightly go down in the record books as one of the greatest Broncos to ever pull on the jersey.
“Thank you for your phenomenal service, leadership and friendship throughout your time at London Broncos.”
Lovell will remain involved with the club by taking on the role of head coach of their Reserves team.
“I’m very proud to have captained the club and to have come through the system from the academy,” he said. “I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”
