ASHTON GOLDING has signed a new two-year deal with Castleford Tigers.
The Jamaican international joined the Tigers from Huddersfield Giants in February and went on to make 13 appearances, mostly at hooker, scoring four tries before suffering a hamstring injury in July.
Golding, 30, has 214 senior games under his belt to date, including 63 with first club Leeds Rhinos and 102 at Huddersfield.
“There’s a little bit of relief actually,” he said of signing the new deal.
”A year ago I left Huddersfield with no contract, and to get another three years in Super League is a blessing, so I’m definitely not going to take that for granted.”
Golding will work under a new head coach in recently-appointed ex-Salford and St Helens boss Paul Rowley.
He continued: “I’ve been playing Super League nearly 13 years now, so I’ve played many games against him.
“I like the way he coaches. I like the style. I like the way that he brings the players (together as) one, and it’s like a real ‘ride or die’ kind of environment that he creates. The world’s against that team that he coaches, and I don’t mind that.
“His track record proves he brings the best out of players, so I’m excited to get to work and get my fitness back. I’m working quite hard to get back on the fitness side of things.”
Director of rugby Chris Chester said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to re-sign Ashton Golding on a new two-year deal.
“Ashton brings a huge amount to the group, both on and off the field, and his experience, quality and attitude make him a valuable part of what we’re building. I’m looking forward to seeing him continue to make a big impact over the next two years.”
