NORTH WALES CRUSADERS say they needed to delay a planned fans’ forum due to negotiations over crucial RFL membership renewal being at a delicate stage.
When relaunched in May following insolvency under the previous ownership, Crusaders were given a licence for the season which has just finished and told that certain criteria had to be met for it to be extended.
The club is desperate to get the green light to continue in 2027, when they would be called Wales Crusaders, have a new coach in Stuart Simmons, and as well as using their current base at Colwyn Bay, play some games in Bridgend in the south of the country, from where they would also operate a development team.
The question-and-answer session with supporters was to have taken place live on the club’s Facebook page last Monday (October 12), with “complete transparency” pledged.
However chairman Jamie El-Kaleh said: “It was delayed because, given the stage of the process we are at, we can’t speak out until we have absolutes.
“We are working with the RFL and with our legal side trying to get things fixed and over the line.
“We aren’t giving up; we are here for the long term, and we are grateful to fans for the offers of support and their well wishes.”
