Castleford Tigers appoint Marc Sneyd as technical coach

CASTLEFORD TIGERS have appointed Marc Sneyd as technical coach on a two-year contract.

The 35-year-old, who will reunite with former coach Paul Rowley at the club, brings a wealth of experience from a playing career spanning more than 300 Super League appearances with Salford, Castleford, Hull FC and Warrington.

Sneyd spent the 2014 season with the Tigers, making 31 appearances across all competitions and scoring 262 points as the club reached the Challenge Cup final and secured a fourth-placed Super League finish.

The wily halfback went on to enjoy back-to-back Challenge Cup triumphs with Hull FC in 2016 and 2017. He claimed the prestigious Lance Todd Trophy as player of the match in both finals, before winning the award for a third time with Warrington Wolves in their defeat to Hull KR in 2025.

Sneyd, who will take on his new role alongside playing for Salford in the Championship, is excited to step into coaching, but stressed it was important to make sure that there were no clashes between his commitments.

“Coaching is something that I want to do in the long run,” he explained. “To have a chance to be able to coach in a full time Super League system, it was an option that I really wanted to do.

“There’s a lot of learning, and giving a bit of advice when I can.

“The club has already got Robbo (Luke Robinson) and Grixy (Simon Grix) there, and Rowls (Rowley) is a really hands-on coach as I know from having him as a coach at Salford.

“I’ll just be in and around all of it really, adding where I can, and doing a bit of the skill-based stuff and things like that. I’m looking forward to getting started.”

Director of Rugby Chris Chester added: “We’re delighted to bring Marc into our coaching staff for the next two seasons.

“He’s got a fantastic rugby league brain, a huge amount of experience and a real understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level.”

“Marc has been a top player throughout his career, and I’m confident he can bring a great deal to our environment.

“His knowledge of the game, attention to detail and ability to pass on his experience will be a real asset to our players.”
