Batley chairman beaming with pride after top four triumph

Batley Bulldogs chairman Kevin Nicholas couldn’t contain his delight after seeing his side secure a spot in the Qualifiers.

The Bulldogs achieved the unthinkable as they secured a place in the top four ahead of the likes of Bradford and Halifax as they defeated Swinton Lions 62-24.

And after seeing his team secure the financially-rewarding third place in the Championship, Nicholas was left delighted.

It’s a special occasion,” he said. We came in quite confident after last week, but you still dread it might go wrong, it didn’t go wrong, and we just have to enjoy it now really.

“We came in quite confident after last week, but you still dread it might go wrong, it didn’t go wrong, and we just have to enjoy it now really.”

With the club now gearing up for meetings with some of the game’s biggest clubs, Nicholas is eagerly anticipating the situation.

“Full-time setups, teams that have more money than us, but we’ve got a set of players and a coach that have given their all this year. I can’t believe it, there can’t be anyone as proud of me of this club.

“The situation this year is that you have some brilliant teams in that bottom four of Super League, We’re going to have some game competition, and now we have to enjoy it.”
