London Broncos have confirmed three pre-season friendlies – including one against a touring Australian side.
Indigenous team Yowies Rugby League will be the first opponents at the Broncos’ new Trailfinders Sports Club on Saturday January 23, with a 6.45pm kick off.
The Yowies were established just over 20 years ago in Newcastle, New South Wales.
They were set up to encourage and provide indigenous people the opportunity to participate in sport and they support a variety of sports, from Rugby League, touch rugby, cricket, golf and netball.
The Rugby League team has competed in various tournaments in Australia over the years and played exhibition matches, and a number of high-profile NRL players have represented them.
It is likely the touring team this year will feature a number of Australian indigenous players from the local Newcastle competition, the NSW Cup and Queensland Cup, as well as former NRL stars possibly including Timana Tahu and Nathan Merritt.
The Broncos will then face London Skolars on Saturday January 30 at the New River Stadium, before finalising their pre-season plans with a trip to Dewsbury Rams the following day, both with a 3pm kick-off.
