Widnes Vikings captain Kevin Brown has said he’s “desperate” to force his way back into the reckoning England selection after revealing that he was at the meeting held by coach Wayne Bennett on Monday night.
Brown gets a chance to impress Bennett first-hand on Thursday night when his Widnes side take on Wigan, with the England coach in attendance on a watching brief.
And after revealing he was involved in Bennett’s meeting of the England group earlier this week, Brown has admitted that with a new coach in charge for this year, there is a chance he can force his way into Bennett’s thinking if he strings his best form together between now and the end of the year.
“I’m desperate to play for England,” Brown said. “The door has been shut on me since 2010 for whatever reason, but I think there’s a chance and it’s up to me now to perform.
“Touch wood I get a good run with injuries and I am confident I can produce some good form if I do.
“We had a get-together on Monday night when Wayne spoke to us about a few things. It’s just exciting being in the same room as Wayne Bennett.
“You’re like a sponge, trying to soak up everything he says. You are hanging on every word because of what he’s done in the game.”
