Catalans snap up Drinkwater

Catalans Dragons have completed the signing of Josh Drinkwater on a deal until the end of the season.

The former Leigh halfback has been without a top-flight club since the Centurions’ relegation from Super League last year, but has joined the Dragons following the retirement of the club’s existing playmaker Luke Walsh.

Drinkwater, 25, made 43 appearances for Leigh over two seasons, helping the club to promotion before their Million Pound Game defeat last season, ironically against the Dragons.

Following that, he returned to Australia where he signed for the Western Suburbs Magpies, but has returned to Super League with Les Dracs and will arrive later this week.

“Replacing Luke in our squad will be Josh Drinkwater who we are delighted to say has agreed to join us with immediate effect,” said head coach Steve McNamara

“Josh has had a brilliant start to the season in the NSW Cup in Australia and having had previous experience in the Super League competition knows a lot about the game over here.”
