Leigh Centurions coaching duo Micky Higham and Paul Anderson, former boss Neil Jukes and ex-Rochdale chief Alan Kilshaw are among the early contenders for the club’s vacant head coach position.
The Centurions are starting the search after confirmation that Kieron Purtill has joined Championship rivals Widnes.
Local pair Higham and Anderson are understood to be keen to try and take the club forward after both playing key roles in holding things together in the closing weeks of last season.
Anderson is a long-serving assistant who has worked under several Centurions coaches – including promotion-winning Jukes – while the vastly-experienced Higham came out of retirement to help his hometown club earlier this year.
Kilshaw is another contender, having led Rochdale to promotion in 2016 before keeping them in the Championship for two consecutive seasons.
His experience in working with limited budgets could be invaluable with uncertainty over Leigh’s ownership continuing.
