Cumbria on top of the world

CUMBRIA, who merely needed to avoid defeat by eight points or more at Blackbrook to secure the 2015 BARLA County Championship, sealed the title in style with an emphatic victory in which Lancashire’s indiscipline played a part.

The home side, who had two players sin-binned late in the first half, trailed 10-0 at the break to tries by Phil Lister and Perry Singleton.

Singleton crossed again midway through the second period, with clinching tries following in the final quarter for Mark Tyson and Lister. Adam Kelly landed three goals, while Lancashire copped a third yellow card in the closing minutes.

Lancashire Chairman Phil Johnson said: “At the end of the series, and four competitions, Lancashire still remain victorious with two titles, with Yorkshire and Cumbria picking up one title each.

“Overall, it’s still a successful year.

“I’m very happy with the Under 19s performance today, but disappointed with the Open Age scoreline.

“Congratulations to Cumbria and Yorkshire respectively.”
