Ellis targeting return in opening three rounds of season

Hull FC captain Gareth Ellis has revealed to TotalRL.com that he’s hopeful of making his comeback from a serious Achilles injury in the opening three weeks of the new season.

Ellis admits there’s a slight chance he could “push” the injury to try and get back for the start of the year but, in an exclusive interview with TotalRL.com which you can hear below, Ellis admits the two-week break between rounds two and three due to the World Club Series could work in his favour and ensure he’s fit and firing for the third game of the season.

“It’s been a long road to recovery and there have been some dark moments, particularly the night I did it,” he said.

“There has been some times when you’re out there on your own and you become a bit disconnected with the rest of the group, but I’m at a point where there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“It’s not so much the injury anymore, it’s more getting up to speed because I’ve had a long time not actually playing the game. Now I can do that – which I was able to do this week – I can start to get up to speed with everything else.

“It’s a toss-up over whether I push it for the start of the year or whether we use the World Club Series to pinch a couple of weeks there and make round three.”
