  1. Look mate, I have no idea whether he'll be back or not, but he says he will be. You really can't keep asking him to re-confirm it every time some junk source says he doing this, that or the other. Getting 'news' from Fox is as useless as reading something in the Sun; unreliable at the very very best, and just accepting it as true is just laughable to be honest.
  2. Well, ok I'd forgotten that one!! But it is a fairly isolated result and most of the others were much closer. We beat rovers by 40- 4 not that long ago (though it seems an eternity) so it shouldn't be a great shock if we win on Saturday. Mental attitude will play a big part, maybe a bit of luck early in the piece will send us on our way, Rovers haven't been the most consistent team in SL either, so it's all to play for.
  3. Strangely, considering how poorly we've played recently, we've not really had a proper tubbing in this long run of defeats. I suppose it would be fair to say we're due for one, but on the other hand, playing badly and losing by just a few points makes you think it wouldn't take too much to have a win or three. As a regular, home and away, I've seen all the recent horrors so I have to confess I can hardly believe I'm writing this, but the logic is undeniable, even if the evidence is a bit thin and, on current form, looking a bit far fetched and possibly coloured by desperation. Bad runs often end where you least expect it though, so unless we're saving it up for Knowsley Rd, Craven Park would be as good a place as anywhere.
  4. He's not configured that page of his member's profile, so I guess he's too embarrassed to say. Must be a Rhino then...............
  5. I sort of agree with that, though sometimes, whilst all players efforts are equal some are, perhaps, more equal than others? I can't understand Eddie's attitude about the winner coming from the losing team either to be honest, and on sky this usually only occurs when there is a late winning score. I also agree that Westwood should have been MOM on Friday, it would be churlish to say he did nothing wrong, the truth is he did (just about everything) right. Unfortunately, his performance, from an Eddie and Stevo perspective, would have looked unglamorous or not flashy enough, with too few 'standout' moments to show in the recap.
  6. Not sure where we are with the kit. Didn't we get a new away shirt last season? Not sure about the home, though it would be nothing new to have two new kits for two, or even three, seasons running.
  7. You could say something similar about Wigan last season, I guess, though I don't think Saints have been quite so badly hit as us. What I would say is that they started from a higher base, both paying the full cap for instance. Around
  8. Oh absolutely. Someone with a bit better luck on the injury front would be a big advantage over the last couple of years too. At the end of the day squad players are supposed to be just that, players you go to when the better ones are unavailable, but too many of ours have been picked virtually every week. I mean, fair enough, we could play the kids, but you can't put six and seven in the side every week, it's just no fair on the lads themselves. In any case you really want to be introducing youngsters into a stable side that has a good ethos, and with good pros from whom they can learn, and that's hardly been the case for much this season.
  9. Not sure which game it was, but it was an awful decision (imho) .
  10. It's difficult to say sometimes. There have been tries that I thought (live) were no chance only to find that, frame by frame they were fine, and vice versa. Got to say I've disagreed with the video guy on a few occasions, we've suffered a few and I remember one at Cas earlier in the year when one was awarded by the video, without any apparent contact on the ball. It's all a matter of opinion at the end of the day, and ultimately only one counts!
  11. I'd guess that any changes will be subject to our budget limits, as I can't see Hood 'splashing out' money we haven't got. Biggest hope might be that the crowds rise, that would push the spending power northwards, but to be honest, I can't foresee any very large increase. I know a few people specifically said they wouldn't come back until Macca left, but I'd guess the vast majority of the old glory days fans have other reasons for no longer attending matches; for most it's likely to be simply that we're not winning enough games. Let's hope things pick up.
  12. I don't know if I'm 'excited' or not to be honest, I'm certainly looking forward to the next game, but then, by Friday I always am. We've got a new coach for next season, he proved to be decent at Catalans, he's got a bit of stick at St Helens, if he has a bit of luck there is no reason why he shouldn't keep the majority happy at the Bulls. At the end of the day he'll leave and some will say he's been great, some won't be too sure, and some will say good riddance, c'est la vie. He's been pretty circumspect so far, there again, he's still employed by Saints, so he's hardly got round to a detailed list of things he would like to change at Odsal. No doubt he will stick with what he feels is good and bin what he doesn't like. He was, I assume, used to a constrained budget at Catalans, so that shouldn't be a big problem for him. In the meantime LSH steps into the breech. If we can get a few troops back on parade then we can make the eight, if not it will be more difficult, but I'm ever hopeful. Still running with the Bulls!!
  13. Mmm yeah, in a way, I suppose. Though it's hard to deny that we have a responsibility to promote the game as best we can, and also when, and wherever, it takes root, the onus is on us to help sustain it and provide whatever help we can to ensure it thrives. It's clearly not totally open ended, after all the RFL isn't the FA, and doesn't have pots of cash sitting in accounts, but if we want the professional game to become truly national, which I believe most of us do, then we have to nurture it. We can't just sit on our collective hands and say 'nuffink to do wiv me guv'.
  14. Slightly surprised at McDermott's reaction to be honest. It was a bad tackle, and Paul admitted as such to the committee, but talking about, "deliberately putting someone in a wheelchair" is way over the top in relation to this incident. There isn't, and hasn't been, any suspicion of it being "deliberate" to the best of my knowledge, and the RFL ban would have been much, much longer if the video had given that impression. I can understand in the heat of the game (I can get carried away at times) but not in the more reflective period afterwards. For Macca to say this, against a player he will have played with at Bradford, and possibly (?) coached at Quins and must know isn't a 'dirty' player is a bit off.
  15. I agree that it's no more accurate than any other system. Ultimately any system is only as accurate as the guy with the ruler. It's also true that the original metre was calculated wrongly, apparently when they did the measurement from Paris they forgot to allow for the curvature of the Earth, so the metre was short, and had to be re-calculated. I'm don't know why they bothered to be honest, the only important factor was that everyone used the same measure. Just one final point: the metric system isn't really French. In fact it was discussed in England around a hundred years before the French set up their system. Being British, of course, we were having none of it, and turned it down, and only joined, in our normal tardy fashion, many years later; in similar vein to the Gregorian calendar and European Union.
  16. When I was at school (I left in 1964) we did both. I went into textile engineering during the change over period, moving from the old whitworth stuff to metric. I'll never forget the old guy (he was about as old as I am now!) saying that something was about three sixteenths (of an inch) over three hundred millimetres. I'm still surprised today when young kids tell you their height and weight using imperial, or describe lengths using yards and feet, I really thought it would have died out by now with young people, though I guess as you mention, they might have much older relatives who still use it. The biggest surprise over the last few years though was going to a builders' merchant wanting some posts two metres long and the nearest they could do was six feet.
  17. Could be. There must be some kind of negotiation going on, whether it's wages or compo. Could be they're looking round the office for a pen to sign on the dotted line with?
  18. Nuff said I guess. I have to admit it looked a bad one, though I can't imagine there was any real intent.
  19. He's spot on isn't he? I mean, he's got me to rights; working class, brought up on a council estate in Bradford and educated in schools officially recognised as amongst the worst in the country. What other game would I be watching?
  20. Latest from Ryan Duckett on Radio Leeds 16:30 news 13/7: "The process of appointing the new coach is almost at an end and we hope to be making an announcement in from a couple of days to a week". So still a bit open ended then!
  21. Tommy, the club website says it was mutual agreement. I know where you are coming from, but to say someone was sacked, when both parties say otherwise, could be construed as libelous. Might be best to be a bit careful.
  22. In which case, I'm happy that you're happy. And only wish I were so easily pleased.
  23. Like it makes any difference who is coaching England? Kenny, you could coach England, or me or even the current Aussie coach and his complete back-up staff and we still wouldn't beat the Aussies or NZ consistently because we're not good enough. We haven't got the depth of squad to make any impression on the international scene, you know it, I know it, I'm sure Stevie Mac must know it. Steve has got two jobs in a row where he is blighted by lack of the required quality to complete the task and weighted down by unrealistic expectations. Maybe he just doesn't like a job where he can sleep at night?
