  1. There were a few bottles, but I don't know how much they had back in the stockroom. it was a big branch, which means they probably got a fair amount.
  2. I just bought a bottle of the Armagnac, as well as a couple of Innis & Gunn specials I haven't seen before - Treacle Porter and Canadian Cherrywood.
  3. Six puttonyos is unusual - most Tokajis usually go up to 5. Use it as a dessert wine, as it'll be too sweet to serve with savoury dishes. I must visit my nearest Aldi and check it out. We had friends in Hungary who used to send us all sorts of stuff, including Tokaji. They also sent us a Rubik's cube before it was launched in the West, along with some even more fiendish puzzles in the same vein. I have had Tokaji Essenzia once, quite recently. That was, despite being past is best due to not being stored properly for all the time since it was bought, something very special indeed.
  4. Back from the butcher at Burnt Oak with a kilo of goat meat to marinade overnight, so it'll be Caribbean curry tomorrow.
  5. I have the 4-disc compilation 'Citizen Steely Dan' playing on shuffle.
  6. Apparently Gorden ('Allo 'Allo) Kaye played Rugby League for Moldgreen as a young man. So Tallis wasn't the first 'Gorden' in RL!
  7. Burning Spear cover the Grateful Dead. Better than the original! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SrpaOyfIIeY
  8. The Fall is good stuff. Jamie Dornan's character is a real monster.
  9. Somebody's selling a set of the 1996 Rugby League postage stamps.
  10. If you're buying your kids Lego for Christmas, make sure they build something useful with it.
  11. I can't stand Edwina Currie. The very worst episode of HIGNFY was when the guests were her and Derek Hatton, who both thought themselves utterly hilarious.
  12. Brideshead isn't classic Waugh, but the TV adaptation was so well done, it made the book much more famous than some of the other, better, ones. 'Black Mischief' is another funny one, while 'Labels' is his account of a Mediterranean holiday and is pretty good.
  13. Just finished a couple of excellent biographies. 'Just the one' by Graham Lord, about the legendarily dissipated writer Jeffrey Bernard. 'The Quest for Corvo' by A.J.A.Symons, about the writer, artist, tramp, litigant, pederast, sponger and generally peculiar character Frederick Rolfe, aka Baron Corvo. Now getting stuck into The Ingoldsby Legends, which is good fun.
  14. Yes, it has been a while Scotland were any good, but it was still an enjoyable dust-up.
  15. Scotland v England. A game of pace, a fair bit of skill and, most significantly, almost no tarty histrionics when a firm tackle is made. And there were plenty of those. I also got the sense that both teams were really enjoying it. The enthusiasm from both sides was great to see.
  16. Just skimmed it, but will give it more of a read tomorrow. A quality piece on a forgotten star.
  17. Game suspended, due to Croatian 'fans' chucking flares and fireworks. Italians 'fans' indignant, because they assumed that's their job.
  18. Crocodile on pitch - play on! It could only be Papua New Guinea.
  19. The late Danny Gatton, aka the greatest unknown guitarist in the world.
  20. I don't want to jinx it, but Italy v Croatia on ITV4 right now has been a real cracker of a match. I know, Italy in "watchable" shock!
  21. I saw Adrian Legg doing a demo of a new amp at the British Music Fair years ago. Unfortunately, he spent more time fiddling with the amp's controls than he did playing, and it still sounded awful. Good player, though.
  22. Yes, and despite what it sounds like, that's just one guitarist.
  23. Ignore the presence of Crosby & Nash in the uploader's video - they weren't in Manassas.
