  1. it will be interesting to see next week as the refs will have had a week to review this type of thing. Hopefully we will see this much better in a few weeks when good reviews hopefully iron some issues out. I do agree they need to sort out the "lying on the floor so the video ref can look at the incident" style "injuries" that we see but not sure how we do that without crossing the line on player welfare/safety.. I'm sure its possible though
  2. yes... I'm fully aware after playing the game for 20 years of what players try to do.. I am also fully aware that "accidents will happen" and they will then get punished accordingly, I am not expecting everything to work out perfectly, in the same way as in football when they change laws it doesnt stop every incidence becuase of "accidents" but it drastically reduces them which is good (same with a general law, its illegal to for example, speed but people still do it some by accident some more deliberately, but the limits change people's behaviour over time).. but there are far too may tackles happening that increase the possibility of said accident (ie they start far too high).. and they can be eliminated. The last point is just not true.. there has been studies done about the ideal tackle height (for a defender) which is around the midriff and waist.. these became heavily quoted when RU thought to lower the height to below the waist last year and they had to backtrack as their own research was telling them they were dropping the height too low. You can say "hit lower" without meaning ankles/knees.. "High tackles" arent just about swinging arms either, they are about contact where its the "bear hug" style where the defender is at as much risk of concussion injuries as the attacker with head on head contact.. It really is as simple as stop aiming high. people will get used to it but it will take time, it has happened before when we have outlawed different styles of contact and people change..
  3. I know this could go down like a led balloon for mention union but I quite like their yellow and on review system.. there is still a straight red and a yellow no review but they can put a yellow on review and the TMO has 8 minutes to decide to upgrade it to a red or not by reviewing the footage.
  4. or, and i know this is controversial, but the players could just learn and not hit people in the head, go in with swinging arms etc.. There'll always be the odd dodgy call but seriously the players just need to lower their tackle height. It will happen and we will get on with it its just the first few weeks of serious crackdowns always start like this.
  5. But if there is nothing organised and they wait and nothing gets organised they miss out on what could be a good series and good exposure.. isnt international RL great! what other sport has no idea what is going on in its international calendar within the year.. a world cup 2 years away and we dont even know where its being held let alone how to qualify for it..
  6. If that's the case fair enough... 1 game, 1 game v England maybe 1 v Wales (assuming similar to france).. thats still 3 good competitive games with 1 or 2 wins.. 3 more than they would have had..
  7. when, where, who, how etc with the world cup... as far as i know nothing has really got any meat on the bones for that.. if there is nothing organised, france can hardly just wait around..
  8. to be fair if we're nipicking it was the police car doing 88 hardaker was doing 70 becuase he didnt want to get into a race..
  9. Your last paragraph is the biggest problem in all sports IMHO..
  10. Thats my general thinking too.. also I like the 2 year rule in the NRL for keeping a shirt.
  11. Sorry and I don't mean to be flippant but are you a Doctor or Phycologist? They don't have any need to tell us anything about someone's personal medication or conditions and sometimes, as I understand it, medication needs to change due to a number of circumstances. perhaps the next medication doesn't need a TUE?
  12. for something to fail you have to have parameters to judge it against.. I am not sure what those are for a league system that lasted about 5 years... also I see the "didn't they do well getting £25m out of the government" argument being used, yet we don't know what the government would have given a different person.. the government was supporting loads of sport coming to the UK at that time, loads of different world cups (hockey, netball, cricket etc) women's Euros, the men's Euro main matches etc.. so it could have been good money in a crowded space or it could have been that they would have given more.. Its the same as blaming someone for a poor tv deal when the deals are all dropping and actually that person negotiated a blinding deal under the circumstances.
  13. god that really does show you how simple the home to away change should/could be while keeping the identity of the club clean and obvious.. switch the colours around or make the dominate colour on each shirt dark then light but the designs for home and away are pretty much identical.
  14. There is also the balance to the duty of care to the other people you "look after" ie the rest of the squad/team etc.. at which point does his behaviour cause serious "duty of care" issues for the other people you employ...
  15. absolutely this.. and Lebanon can go on to France and play a 3 test series there.. or a tri nations with wales and france.. get some international Rugby played!!!!
  16. Got to say that the best people to ask on this are probably Lebanese people in Lebanon.. While i understand where you are coming from there are countries that don't have the same "hang-ups" that we do and actually see the wider diaspora as absolutely 100% representing them.. Not saying that is the case here but it may well be.
  17. While I completely agree that players need support, and especially on this type of occasion, at which point do we have to say enough is enough and that actually maybe its being part of the sport that is the issue? The pressures are different, the adulation is different maybe he just cannot handle/process that properly and actually not being a part of it would be better for him. I dont think we should just abandon people at all, and thats not what I am saying, but at which point do we need to look at saying to someone that the environment of professional sport just isnt right for them. You can help them early on and try and help them cope but at some point surely you have to say "this just isnt for you".. and I think thats the case in many jobs, sometimes no matter how much you are helped the job/company just isnt for you and that isnt the fault of anyone.
  18. So thats light colour home and dark colour away.... it'll never catch on!
  19. Really? That's a shame. I don't mind a lot of their stuff and they're service is great.. I don't like the material anyone makes shirts out of now though, not for just wearing casually, and something like that Leeds shirt of done well would be great.. such a miss
  20. well no sponsors except the massive leeds building society one on the front, but yes thats nice, would love other clubs to do that and would happily buy them.
  21. NFL redzone is great.. show whoever is within 20m of the line (redzone), sometimes multibox, if there is a big break in play they swap around.. it keeps you interested.. unless your team is actually on the other side at which point i'd switch over. The thing with so many other sports is they want to solve problems, all play at the same time, no issue how do we put something out that makes it work.. rather than "oh well we wont bother then". RL, to me, seems to have a real issue with problem solving, you can see it with big matches and things like streaming.. they dont like looking outside of the box
  22. oooh jumbo fishfinger and chips as a kid was my go to on long car journeys up and down the A1 visiting my uncle at various RAF stations!
  23. I quite like that but it does look like one of the england training range t-shirts (not that that narrows it down I know!)
