  1. Apparently the bid that will be put together by the Perth Glory football team owner will be called Perth Quokkas
  2. I think your overplaying the impact that the re-entry of Norths would have. They were not a well supported team and if punters on the Central Coast don't care about their presence, why would anyone in Perth?
  3. My understanding is that the owner of the Perth Glory football team is putting a bid together and also a group called the West Coast Pirates. There's also talk that the people behind the Perth Reds will bid. These would all be separate bids asides from the Bears
  4. Norths bring nothing to the table and I have no idea why they're getting involved with Perth. I've even heard that they may facilitate a NZ2 bid. I can only imagine that the NRL or PVL is pushing this onto Perth for political reasons, otherwise it just doesn't make sense
  5. Agree. Norths should try to be the NRL's Central Coast club
  6. As long as Norths have nothing to do with it Perth should be the next NRL club
  7. In my view asides from The Crusaders they were all set up for failure....including London
  8. I don't doubt that Leigh with Derek's backing has the resources to win silverware. Here's where I have a problem though, RL in the UK already has several issues around geographical diversity and lack of clubs within large catchment areas. This leads to the major issue with perception the sport has with sponsors and the casual sports and entertainment customer. Leigh being in SL in itself compounds this image and makes the competition look even more small time than what it already is. Gradually over time the world of UK RL is shrinking and is starting to become an echo chamber for supporters of small town clubs to assert their identity in allegiance with their club at the expense of the commercial growth and health of RL overall. To them, this is not just about sport it's about self identity, culture and ownership. To be honest I find many of these supporters and owners selfish, it's the attitude that they should be in SL regardless of the fact that there are 5 or 6 other clubs down the road all competing over what little sponsors, youth players and supporters are left, this mindset is cannibalising the potential RL has. It's just nonsensical. In my view IMG made some very good proposals but they didn't go far enough, which is understandable given that these same clubs get to vote on the proposals (turkeys aren't going to vote for Christmas). In saying this I would have hoped in IMG's plans that clubs outside of SL that do not enhance the geographical diversity of the sport would have to demonstrate that they bring significant added commercial and more importantly strategic value to the competition in order to play in the league. This is taking into account that we now currently have 5 clubs in the North West alone in SL just a few miles apart and 4 in West Yorkshire this is just not sustainable and I wanted IMG to really tackle this imbalance head on. Derek Beaumont coming out and saying that Leigh can win silverware in 3-5 years tells me that despite IMG'S well thought through proposals the lunatics are still in charge of the asylum.
  9. I'll give that a listen thanks. The fact that they have their own ground and based in a major UK city is a big plus.
  10. How are the Nottingham Outlaws doing these days?
  11. Are there Aberdeen and Dundee teams?
  12. Do you think this initiative is going to produce players for France's national team?
  13. People use the Sheffield- London game as an example of how competitive the new system can be, and yet Sheffield themselves openly confess that they would struggle to maintain a full time operation in the new structure and they are one of the strongest teams in the Championship.......doesn't bode well.
  14. Watched Super League Back Chat and there isn't a week that goes by where Rod Studd isn't pushing P & R, and irritatingly shouts down anyone that dares disagree with him. Is there a chance we could get a journalist on this show that actually knows what the hell they are talking about? I would also appreciate it if they stopped saying that all of the fans want it back because that isn't the case. I know just as many who are against that are for. Memo to Rod Studd and the other so called journalists on BackChat: Promotion & Relegation is a british sporting tradition, but so is losing. Why can't we just stick to one thing for a few years without chopping and changing?
  15. No, it just shows how small minded some people within the game are.
  16. Whether you are for or against p and r, everyone should acknowledge the main flaw in the proposals is that it doesnt address the main issues currently faced at SL level, that being lack of sponsorship and investment, someone show me the connection of how this poxy idea will bring monies into the game, if anything it pushes away investment.
  17. The game in this country is currently run by people who have no vision, flair or commercial savvy whatsoever, these are the same people who voted in the Stobart lorry deal, which involved no monies to SL clubs. At the top of the tree sits Nigel Wood, a man who whilst CEO at Halifax proposed a concept where a team could win league table points for each half of a game, luckily that was laughed out of town, unfortunately we weren't as lucky this time.
  18. We need another Richard Lewis, someone who has no prior investment within RL to take a more objective approach.
  19. Which was over 20 years ago, the attendances declined rapidly after that.
