  1. Not quite all. It's a difficult and costly journey over to Widnes from Sheffield on a Thursday night and considering the match was on Sky, AND we don't have a good record at Widnes, a lot of people would have been content to watch on TV. Regarding Batley creeping up on us and pipping us at the death, Widnes fans should know all about that. And there were actually 12 of us there last night!!
  2. Sadly, I was unable to take my own pie and peas or myself, as my back gave out mid-afternoon. Apologies to all.
  3. I forgot to get my ticket for the big night Can I pay on the door?
  4. I would've said of all the qualifiers, I'd like Hunslet at home, but after yesterday's win at Halifax, I'm not so sure. Maybe Keighley at home might be a better bet
  5. Is this game still on and what time is the kick off? On here it says 7-30 but in League Express it says 7 pm, and when I rang the office today, I was told it might not be on at all, due to the RFL having not given clearance for the game to take place.
  6. Well done to the Thatto Heath lads today. You played with a lot of spirit and had us worried at the start for a while. Good luck for the rest of the season.
  7. Though it pains me to say it, I have to agree. Although credit must go to the Eagles defence for their monumental tackling stint in the second half. To hold out for so long, under immense pressure, with Fax having about 4 consecutive sets was unbelievable. Pity we couldn't hold on for five more minutes. A draw would've been a fair result today.
  8. Quote of the week from a middle aged woman stood behind me, immediately after the hooter. "Well we REALLY deserved that, we were the better team all game!". I was still in disbelief on the train home.
  9. After recovering from double pneumonia, being at the game last night with an already horrendous cold, I thought, ultimately, that the game actually benefitted from Tubby's tactics of fielding an "experimental" side. We could've put out a full strength side and won 60-0 or summat stupid, but I enjoyed the competitiveness of last night's game. Although I have to say, I wasn't feeling like that at 8-12 last night!!!!!!!!!! I thought Oldham's halfbacks and hooker were excellent and ran us ragged in the eary stages and, Oldham's intensity visibly slowed when the no6 went off injured. Menzie and Richie Barnett were quiet, but neither had played for a while, and I'm still not convinced by Dane McDonald at halfback. The good thing for me was that they were pretty much a scratch side, and were put under a lot of pressure, but generally coped, and won the game. That bodes well for the future, I think.
  10. Could be worse!! You could've booked a ticket for the Crusaders v Hull game at Wrexham priced at 17 quid, (no refunds available) thinking the weather wouldn't be this bad, then find out the game is actually ON but you can't get there as there are no buses. Then find out that Swinton v Widnes and Hull KR v Huddersfield are still on when the buses have started running but it's too late to get there. BLOODY WEATHER, WHEN WILL IT EVER GET ANY BETTER Swinton have some covers for the pitch apparently, so if they lend em to Oldham, our game should be ok.
  11. Should just be pulling into Halifax railway station by that time.
  12. OK Cheers mate. I'll let you know by PM if I find anyone.
  13. Is anyone going on to the World Club Challenge after our match at Halifax next Sunday? I wouldn't get there by puplic transport, I've looked into it. There might be a free ticket in it.
  14. Nice to hear an unbiased account of last night's match from a Fax fan. When I was leaving, most of 'em were saying the reason we won was a) Fax played "######" the Eagles were cheating by lying on etc, or c) the ref was bent. I think we wanted it more. The Fax team were held up on the way, but I'm sure they wouldn't use that as an excuse.
  15. Depends on what day the match is played. If we're relegated to the Friday night, that'll effect the crowd, especially I would imagine for yourselves. Getting over from St. Helens on a Friday night won't be easy. There should be a decent crowd for a Sunday game, bearing in mind you're a famous name in the amateur game. I'd say a thousand upwards for a Sunday game. Not as many as you'd get at Widnes or Leigh though, sorry. Look forward to seeing you.
  16. Looking at the pictures of the proposed "new" home ground of Oldham RLFC on their forum page makes me almost glad we're playing them at Sedgley Park, even if it is on a Monday night. I've been to NCL grounds that aren't much more basic. I hope they make a go of it, but it makes you wonder how basic a ground the RFL are willing to allow in. What happened to Framing the Future?
  17. I never thought of that. It'd also come in handy if we play at Castleton Gabriels ground again. 25p a sheet should pay for my day out
  18. You've outdone me with your stats this time Eagletarian, you'll be getting a little notepad next.
  19. Saw Thatto Heath beat Castleford Panthers 32-0 at Castleford on Saturday in the previous round, although to be fair, the Panthers did have on off day. Thatto are one of the better teams from the NCL, and although now in Division 1, they shouldn't be taken lightly, as indeed shouldn't any amateur teams. This is their cup final.
  20. I'm just hedging my bets. I might go with you and come back with him. At the moment, I'm not feeling like going anywhere. Got a stinking cold that just came on yesterday and it's getting me down. Hope I'll be okay for Wednesday night.
  21. Who better to step into the breach.
  22. I thought both teams were guilty of too much scrappy play, but as you say, Ronnie didn't help by being too pedantic. Liam Welham played very well for your lot, he's going to be a difficult player to keep hold of for the opposition. Our forwards went quite well, one they got going but some of the backs struggled. Roll on the next meeting.
  23. Yeah I'd go for that, I quite like Swinton (the team that is, not particularly the ground). Although I've now managed four games in a day, thanks to the Magic weekend.
  24. What about if we used the same tactics and beat you, would you be happy with that? Anyway, moving on, I thought today's match was very entertaining. We weren't at the races for the first 15 minutes, and were lucky to stick with you. I thought overall, Featherstone were the better team today, and should realy have won. You had three, possibly four, tries disallowed for being held up over the line, missed three kicks at goal and missed a pretty straight forward drop goal attempt. We got close to the line three times and bombed the chance. The good thing from our point of view is that we played a quite mediocre game and still got a draw. I think both teams will do well this season and hopefully get into the play offs again. We owe you one.
