  1. Speed of player doesn't mean bigger collisions, speed of play is how fast the game moves, not speed of collisions they are 2 seperate things. The players are not that much quicker its the speed of passing, kicking, decision making, everything is a millisecond or more quicker. The aussie game is quicker but they always comment on the increased physicality when coming to our comp.
  2. Added to the previous 2 rounds.. it adds up
  3. So a home game followed by an away game (potentially in france) and then a final, thats a lot of money 3 weeks on the bounce
  4. Yes and the higher the level the less physical and more quicker it is
  5. Pace of the game not pace of the players , that would just be silly
  6. A lot of rugby fans will also be ST holders of footy clubs, footy season is back on, lots of internationals in RU and NFL, soccer etc and its coming into party / Christmas time. The RFL are also flogging the internationals to THE SAME set of fans!
  7. Disagree, the main difference is pace of the game, the actual collisions are the same for the top amateurs as the pros. Infact a lot of top amateurs will be in the gym as often as the pros and a lot of them would have come through SL academys
  8. Saints sold out fridays allocation in a couple of days and have recieved more tickets, not sure why the same doesn't happen the other way round ?! Would be happy to move the final to France but only if a guarantee was placed for a set amount of ticket sales/ guaranteed revenue.
  9. They could move that one to leigh sports Village and still not sell it out.
  10. It would help funding in the championship if they self fund like toulouse do. More for the English clubs to share. 3 French clubs and can start to look at a TV deal in France. 4 overseas clubs and 8 UK clubs is the way forward for SL !
  11. Must be re-sale You can charge what you want if people eill pay it. In the US footy they tend to have 8 home games and don't play the same teams each year... less is quite often more!
  12. The ref should shout held when an attacking player joins into the ruck area. Don't like the slowing the play the ball either, attacking players should be allowed to clear the ruck
  13. Yes.. if you watch games from as little as 5-10 years ago its a different game , somewhat faster, less wrestle, less holding down, more passing and kicking. The games from the 80s are like watching a different sport
  14. We have gone away from attacking kicks on the goal line, certainly high balls, its a power play to hand over in the corner or a small grubber designed for a repeat set
  15. If we all took that view we would still be playing by the union rules with 15 a side !!
  16. Currently a player will push it dead or ground it knowing that their kicker will clear the ball into the opposition half. It would force players to try to get out of ingoal like they used to and would maybe see the return of bombs near the line
  17. Think it was to stop teams booting it downfield for position on the last tackle or quite often 4th or even 3rd to happily push the opposition back to their 20. Particularly on an out set from your own line.
  18. Whilst I agree slightly the game has stopped putting the ball up on the line for a contest as caught on the full is a 20m tap. So the vast majority of completions is a grubber to force a repeat set, a grubber to turn over deep in the opposing half or run it on the 5th to the corner to turn over in the corner. Attacking kicks are now few and far between and most attacking kicks that end up in a try is a grubber to try to force the repeat set but are not fielded properly.
  19. Should the rule be changed and being tackled in goal be 2 points to the opposition instead of a drop out ?
  20. The population vs attendance is strange As it is probably comparable to any other sport.. I always look at a 10% rule, 10% of the population is the achievable attendance for any sport.. Also the destruction of league 1 was targeted and those clubs named was targeted by a change of approach to shrink the game. That was after a very successful period to grow the game.
  21. It fails because the insular people involved in the game at a high level make them fail. The heartlands won't grow if the wider game doesn't. Everytime expansion starts to work the powers that be shrink it back down. The removal of expansion officers that were not centrally funded ! Is proof of this. Toulouse have repeatedly been rejected from SL for 25 years.. they need a protected stint in the top division and it will be a success. You say no one wants Newcastle to be a success locally then why do they repeatedly bid for magic, why did the amateur scene had an explosion from nothing to multiple clubs ?
  22. RL was popular in toulouse and they have been overlooked for 25 years... they should be in SL and free from the threat of relegation. Toronto worked, the SL chairmen booted them out. London worked, current bad leadership of the SL club which has toppled the whole area. Newcastle region worked but is going backwards, not sure why Wales worked but crusaders were promoted to SL to soon. Union also started a war on RL in the country. The RFL pulled the development officers which were paid for by sports England which collapsed progress all over the nation. Sports England then pulled the funding. The current clubs will not grow unless there us a bigger geographical spread. England attendances will not grow without a regular calender and events targeting a newer audience. You and your comments are the mindset of the leaders of the game which have us stuck where we are. Stay small and carry on will not help the game grow at all. How do you think sponsorship works ? Why do you think premier league football claim to have hundreds of millions of fans ? IMG are clearly forcing clubs to push SM to demonstrate reach to enable better marketing to sponsors.. The TV deal there is no competition to sky, in addition we expect sky to produce all the content. Its crazy to expect the package deal to continue to increase. The biggest deal we got was when sky had to buy the rights to league1 the championship , SL , the CC games bbc didn't want to show and exclusive England internationals. Now they don't want the championship and certainly not league 1. They don't have exclusivity to SL, they don't want the CC and they don't have England games, oh and we are asking them to film every single game and we expect a bigger financial payment ?!
  23. Carney never said target the current top players, he is saying there are several players capable of playing top level that don't get a chance. He is right there will be several 'Alex walmsley path' players knocking about in union..
