  1. This is not the problem. Paasi has potentially had his career ended because of the reckless actions of an opponent. Discussion on this should not be shut down because of what teams were involved, or "should he have just let him score".
  2. Because objectively it doesn't "look as bad". I think its as simple as that.
  3. No, because League games generally get higher attendances, and the North Stand is still available as a shared facility for general admission - which I wouldn't have done. I note in the past when the East and West were similar terraces, fans would swap ends at half time.
  4. I think the game is heading that way anyway, and in any case a lot of the current rules aren't the same as they were before 30 years ago, and likewise 30 years before that, and 30 years before that. The sport is almost unrecognisable from what it was nigh on a hundred years ago. In your lifetime you have seen some of the biggest transitions, but played out in slow mo. FWIW, I think there will come a ruling on recklessly injuring an opponent - causing defenders to consider what they are doing a bit more carefully. Likewise I think tackle coaching will focus far more on the shoulders to hips area first and foremost (which is arguably going back in time). I think that will be appealing as people like to see big front up hits, not second man tackles to the legs.
  5. It isn't though is it. We play a sport to the rules that we deem acceptable. Some sports deem injuring opponents perfectly acceptable, most others, like ours, take a more nuanced approach and set that bar somewhere between minimal contact and allowed violence. We don't just let people do anything on a rugby pitch.
  6. Not as posh as that
  7. Possibly, though I personally think they shared the ground the wrong way anyhow.
  8. I actually think its not a bad thing to see Toulouse and Catalans do this sort of thing on occasion.
  9. Money going back into the game is a good thing, as discussed further into that thread. Even without the Western Terrace, which is fine, it is still bigger in capacity than Warrington.
  10. The nations league approach for Europe seemed to be ideal for this regularity of international fixtures. The Americas Cup seemed to be progressing nicely. The Oceania Cup seemed a no brainer. MEA seemed a bit more difficult as Lebanon operate on two levels, but not insurmountable problems in the slightest. All of this seems to have disappeared for no really good reason.
  11. Only 2 other modern wholly RL owned grounds in the UK Harry. The rest are shared, rented or council owned.
  12. "His only alternative was to literally not tackle him and let him score. And what player is going to do that?" Our rules are there to put limits on that attitude. Otherwise we'd have players being knocked out because "otherwise I'd have let him score". Of course the sport carries inherent risks, but the vast majority of those risks come from the players to themselves and eachother. A full 90+kg muscle bound player driving shoulder first into the side of someone's knee will likely result in the outcome Paasi has come out with. A lot of our rules were designed for men who didn't train full time or receive elite nutritional advice from 14. The power they can call upon perhaps is beyond what the rules currently can account for.
  13. I agree that at our marquee events there is a lot to work with. I'm less certain on the majority of Super League fixtures but that can change.
  14. I am a Leeds fan. I have no love for St Helens. I agree with, and I can't believe I'm saying this, Rohan Smith! And Tony. I also agree with what others have posted on here. Namely that the actions weren't illegal currently, that they will likely be in future, and thay players have to bear responsibility for eachother's welfare on the field. There is a difference between hurting your opponents honestly to establish dominance and attempting to achieve that through recklessly and/or maliciously hurting them. I personally believe Asiata's tackles were in the reckless category. Likewise I think Knowles' chicken wing that he received a paltry "punishment" for at the end of last season was malicious. This isn't club specific or personal. I think Asiata is reckless because he is as likely to receive a major head injury with that tackling technique as he is to injure his opponents. Its hard to provide consistent punishment to reckless actions as there's no intent and the damage to the opponent almost has to be included by default; ignorance is also no defence.
  15. The point I made subsequently is that there aren't many other stadiums to choose from that meet the same criteria. There's literally 2 others. I suppose I'm not as soft as some old timers who don't like the good old days...
  16. Me neither! I suppose that is the point?
  17. So should England and France/Wales, and Australia and New Zealand, but hey!
  18. Shame to see USA and Canada so low down after such good prospects in recent years. The importance of regular, understandable and consistent international matches/tournaments cannot be understated. Eventually, doing this at u20s/21s or age group levels too would be ideal too. It doesn't have to be perfect and there will of course be teething problems, but a plan that can be stuck to regardless of which way the wind is blowing that day is essential.
  19. Whilst I think it was a limited internal appointment again, it is important to recognise that the role seems to be significantly more limited in scope than Rimmer, Wood or even Elstone at Super League. It is almost a 2nd tier role now with RL Commercial leading the sport, though of course I would like to still see some real quality in that position.
  20. Yeah the Wednesday rebrand seems to go against everything everyone is doing now - which is basically simplify and make compatible with a monochrome palette. Ironically that is exactly what the old badge was. Granted, a lot of things at Hillsborough have been odd for some time now.
  21. I think it does on the social media posts that image is included with.
  22. I'm sure there is a video that would show Gledhill's precise unfiltered reaction to this news...
  23. Agreed. But unfortunately this is where some limitations come in with the facilities and locations we have within the sport.
  24. I think there has been some poor disciplinary decisions in the past. Broadly however I think the disciplinary and post game review system has got things correct this year - punishments have felt appropriate and team sheets haven't been dominated with "missing through suspensions". However, there have been high profile cases where deliberate or reckless injury causing actions have been punished minimally, if not at all. It is about balance, like all things.
  25. I'd suggest that disposable income and class don't necessarily correlate directly anymore either.
