  1. Got a load of chicken breast cut into chunky strips in the oven, marinated in ginger, garlic, chilli, lemon juice coriander, soy sauce and honey, going to go with pita and some nice salad. Aroma permeating the gaff nicely.
  2. The Real Cruel Sea, by Richard Woodman. its about the battle of the atlantic from the perspective of the merchant navy. excellent analysis which stretches back to the end of world war one and how its economic and social consequences affected the merchant navy in many ways, government planning and philosophy regarding sea trade and the coming war, which stretched back to the mid thirties and how that translated into reality, and how that was reacted to by all concerned including the germans, and a brilliant narrative about the human side of the battle.
  3. I'm working on this on my guitar. my teacher played me this version to get another angle on it. i was stunned.
  4. Cormoran strike is decent Sunday evening viewing. JK Rowling channeling Raymond Chandler. Interesting plot line Although Robin's personal conflict sub plot is a bit obvious Claustrophobic relationship with boring boyfriend in tidy flat where she makes his tea and plans a twee wedding, versus the new freedom working with Cormoran: juicy cases, her intellect valued and challenged, she gets to drive off-road albeit in a rented Fiat, and the kindling of chemistry between her and Cormoran. The stories are interesting, the acting of a high standard, with some quality cameos and it's well written.
  5. Is that the French detective series? It's brilliant.
  6. the complete lack of realism on tv. Here's a for instance. When you see people cleaning their teeth, you never see the froth running down their chin. I'm right aren't I?
  7. i wouldn't dream of going anywhere on a bank holiday.
  8. I lived near there at a place called little plumstead for two years. I loved it.
  9. It did it's job. I had to concentrate on a woodwork job, but was able to drift in and out of Jeremy vine, the bloke who is standing in for Steve Wright and Simon Mayo. There are some good shows on radio 2 actually. I adore Paul Jones' blues show, and Bob Harris has changed my view of country music right round. I'm just getting into Clare Teal's big band show and don't mind dipping into Jamie Culum. I also prefer the Mark Ratcliffe version of the folk show. Mike Harding gave me a rash...professional northerner allergy
  10. Been in my workshop most of the afternoon and I've had radio two on. I can't remember any of it, but it was pleasant.
  11. To Die in spring is set in the final months of world war two. Two young farm hands, barely out of school are persuaded to join the waffen as. It moves between then and the 1980s and tells us how experience can effect not just ourselves but those who come after us. I can strongly relate to this.
  12. I made some last night. I've nicked half of it already.
  13. I knew you'd be the one. NOOOO!!! Will you be told.
  14. Here's a thing and it costs next to nothing, and it gives you working class street cred as well Get a cucumber. Peel it and slice it into discs. Get an onion peel it and slice it into rings. Put them in a bowl and mix them up. Get some bog standard malt vinegar, no balsamic, red wine etc type vinegar allowed and I'm serious when I say that. Put the vinegar into the bowl until it covers the onion and cucumber. Strictly no seasoning. You now have an accompaniment to meat hot or cold, meat on a sandwich, salad, and with pie and peas and so on. When the onion and cucumber is used up. You can replenish the vinegar by adding more onion and cucumber. Or you can use the by now onion infused vinegar on your fish and chips. I love this stuff and I can't walk past the bowl without snagging a slice of onion or cucumber. It reminds me of my gran.
