  1. I was thinking it was Clive Sullivan TPH. Glad you pointed that out. Townend had a right boot on him yet I can't remember him playing all that long. Perhaps Mark has got his playing statistics.
  2. Yeah Saints took an age coming out at half time while Rovers were freezing to death stood around
  3. One match that is often talked about was against Hull KR. It wasn't 18 points but Fev were losing 19-4 and had Vince Farrar sent off. Fev got back to 24-23 and in the last few minutes KR had two players sent off and we slotted the winning penalty over from the touchline in the dying seconds. I think the match was in the old No6 trophy. Vaguely remember coming from a large deficit at home to none other than Doncaster. St Helens once overturned a large half time deficit at Post Office Road to beat Rovers on a very cold wintry evening.
  4. Good assessment. These young refs do things to the book. Judging by my own working experience whenever I got a new job I would make sure that I worked to the book. However when you've been in a job for a while you know which corners to cut or not as the case might be. As you point out TPH they are doing it within the laws of the game and we can only hope that they apply the law consistently to all teams.
  5. Did Day go off for a head assessment? If so that's perhaps the reason he isn't playing this week.
  6. They seem to be obsessed about the weather and our " sloping bog of a pitch" on the Wakey forum. All I can say is that our players didn't do too badly on a pitch similar to their own at the weekend. Obviously being new to this league they might not know that our pitch is generally in mint condition. They just turned up on the wrong day in the cup tie and unfortunately grass tends to get a bit boggy when it rains for a considerable time.
  7. Think I would recall Gorman for fullback from HullKR Put Aekins in the halves with Turner. That would enable us to have a decent goalkicker. Gorman played really well at Batley after a couple of early errors.
  8. Good luck today OG. Tall order but I hope you give them one hell of a game.
  9. Well done Batley. Following on from your two displays against Fev and now this. I hope you are as proud of your players as we are proud of ours at Fev. Two super league clubs got hammered this weekend against their fellow super league opponents while two championship sides gave their super league opponents a run for their money. Well done.
  10. Well done Leigh for overcoming a monumental effort from Fev. The difference in the two teams was very poor defence out wide from Fev. Two of those tries would have certainly been stopped with a little more organisation. AND the obvious new rule that Super League teams can pass forward on occasion if they've got momentum. Proud of these players especially with all that's going off at the club. They are a very committed group.
  11. With all the adversity going on at our club off the field. ( Which by the does affect the players. ) And the determination the players gave to upset Wakey the week before then on top of that the last minute rearranging of positions which left us with no half backs then we simply had no right to expect Fev to overturn an 18-0 deficit at a very tough venue such as Mount Pleasant. All I can say is well done to everyone of the players for digging deep and getting the result at the death. Gorman the fullback from Hull KR after a couple of early mistakes excelled in a re-jigged team and his kicking at goal and the carrying of the ball from deep was instrumental in getting Fev the win against a good Batley performance.
  12. Good comments. Speculation always gets in the way of the truth. I'm just watching Fev beating Wakey for the eighth time on YouTube. Let the club deal with any financial worries with the hope that it's sorted favourably for all concerned. And let the players focus on a Batley side that always show up for one another.
  13. Exactly. I am a pensioner some of whom are better off than those that are still working and some who are not. It's swings and roundabouts. Rugby League has many older people watching than youngsters. So the moral of the story is why doesnt this lurking monster known as IMG try and attract a younger audience. We have yet to see any positive vibes coming from them regarding improving the games stature.
  14. Think it was a sellout before they lost to Fev. But I have seen about 3000 tickets floating in the river Calder since the Fev match
  15. History repeating itself TPH. Leigh went for a bit more quality when they lost in similar circumstances.
  16. If Fev are the only team that can win matches in muddy conditions then bring back the winter season. I recall we got the same verbals when we beat Leigh at Post Office Road a couple of seasons ago. Then they went out and bought a brand new team. Plus I am old enough to remember when we beat high riding Trinity 11-7 in the 1967 challenge cup they openly suggested that Fev had watered the pitch before the match. Wakefield have a good side and sure enough will win plenty on hard grounds but a good team should be able to play conditions that are same for both sides.
  17. So right Mo. I was thinking in those conditions it would finish with a drop goal. I couldn't believe it when I saw Gaz in space and I can't remember how he got the ball in the first place. I was satisfied in the thought that we had held them to a draw never thinking we could score again. Both sets of players need applauding for slogging it out in those conditions
  18. Perhaps going back to the five metre rule at the play the ball might rectify the head on collisions. The argument with that though is the game becomes less spectacular and it's understandable. BUT after all safety is paramount.
