I've always been of the opinion that if someone qualifies for a National team, is given the the opportunity to play, and then actually takes to the field, fantastic and the very best of luck to them. But once you have represented one Country (at any age group), you give up the eligibility to play for any other country, regardless of what tier they are in...but I am, I fear, a bit of a dinosaur.

I know Heritage players is a contentious issue for a lot of people on here - me included, but this article suggests that there are indeed a few other 'English' players playing in the NRLW this year https://www.nrl.com/news/2025/07/04/travis-kelleher-back-move-for-nrlw-stars-to-bolster-england/

There is an NRLW Round 1 thread on the Womens RL forum. Didn't see the full game myself, only the highlights - but a couple of others on there said Paige had a solid game on debut and didn’t look out of place. Her stats looked to be pretty good.

Fran Goldthorp, playing on the wing at the moment, scored the first try in the game today for North Queensland

NRLW 2025: Round 1 Match Thread

Good to hear that Paige did well, flying a flag for the British game in the NRLW after the disappointment of Vegas. Looking forward to seeing how the other three get on in the opening round of 2025 on Friday and Saturday. As a York Knight/Valkyrie fan, it will be interesting to see how Megan Pakulis eventually goes at the Titans too - she has only been named as a reserve for this round I think. -

I probably won't get chance to watch this until tomorrow. How did Paige Travis fair on dayboo? -
The Fev forum have a MOM poll every round where they pick their top 3 performers. If we did the same, Jordan Thompson would never miss out on a top 3 slot. The thing with Tommo is not only that he has the fitness to play the full 80 mins, he has the resilience to come back week after week to do the same - seemingly without being bothered by the little injuries. I don't want to tempt fate... but how many games has he missed since joining us? A York legend already in my eyes, long may he continue proving it.

https://www.yorkrlfc.com/post/york-knights-v-featherstone-rovers-match-day-guide Yes, and yes. Should be another good game - really looking forward to it. Weather looks like it will be a bit better than it was at Wembley too!

Just listened to few selected periods of the BBC Radio Leeds coverage of the game. Loved the fact that I could hear your 'impartial' commentary going on in the background after Liam popped over that kick!

I will miss those barrelling runs into the opposition's defensive line. Best of luck with the Cougars Jack. You'll be a favourite with their fans in no time (if you aren't already)

Thanks, yes I've seen it's available on there now - maybe I just missed it yesterday. Might be odd watching it all back again from side on this time rather than my memories of the game, miles away down in that York corner - Although we did get a great view of both tries in the CC down there!

A bit of rain might have softened up the bread in those 3 hot dogs we bought!
-
Don't get me wrong, I would never advocate moving the CC away from Wembley...but surely it's in their and the RFL's interests to improve the hospitality available in the general spectator areas?

Youre not kidding...Having been to 3 previous CC finals in the last 15 or so years (York fan, so obviously always as a neutral) I wasn't expecting much from the food and drinks inside the ground, but this year, even I was surprised at the lack of choice available. I might have missed something in the crowds but the bar we ended up at seemed to be just teenagers behind the counter, cracking open hundreds of cans of Stella - no bitter and nothing available on draught there. (Did spot someone with what looked like a Guinness and on his instruction and a very long walk, managed to track down a couple of pints of Camden Stout) As we were there for the CC and to watch York in the 1895, my kids went to get some chicken, chips etc at about 5.30 but they said by then, everything was closing up and they could only just about manage to get hold of some of the most uninspiring hot dogs I've ever seen. Someone in our group was a first time RL and first time Wembley visitor - he was not impressed. Why would people even consider staying throughout the whole day, even if they were thinking of returning next year? And this is all without considering the prices.

Me neither with Rovers fans. In fact, I overheard from a distance a young York fan say something particularly ungracious (not offensive) to a passing more senior flat capper on our way back to the tube yesterday. His family sort of told him off but it was all rather embarrassing and doesn't paint York fans as a whole in a good light, does it? Apologies to him. For me, it took the shine off what should have been a memorable moment.
