  1. I have to say I don't think I've lamented the departure of Bradley Walsh - he was given a decent role and made an ok fist of it but was never a great acting talent I would say. As for John Bishop - I claim dislike of him as a pre-existing condition.
  2. It must be so hard constantly being made so uncomfortable by the facts of the modern world. As for John Bishop it's depressing news. He's one of the people I reach for the remote to switch over every time he comes on. That's mostly his attempts at comedy and presenting so I'll give him a chance in an acting role but I don't hold out much hope. Last time they did something similar I found Catherine Tate's acting frankly awful to watch. Why can't they go for actual professional actors? They've just cleared out a pair of moderate acting talents and I was hoping things would look up for this Doctor after a weak start.
  3. Having a frog butler was one of the coolest things I could imagine as a kid.
  4. Les Dyl. One more inductee tomorrow. Logically due to the rule which requires players to be retired for five years or more, this would be Sinfield with Peacock following next year (he played, briefly, for HKR in '16) and Burrow/McGuire the year after that. However apparently there is a get-out clause for exceptional circumstances so I wonder if they will bump Sinfield this year and bring Burrow in early.
  5. Fred Webster in - at last. Like Clues you look at some of the people already in there and wonder how he didn't make it in before now.
  6. Arthur Clues added to the Leeds Hall of Fame. Three more to follow in the next three days. There's a story in here from Tony Collins about Clues being sent off whilst acting as a touch judge which is outstanding.
  7. Eileen Pollock aka Lilo Lil. www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/entertainment-arts-55424184
  8. Sorry if it's not what you cool cats had in mind when you created this thread but I stuck this on as a joke and an hour later I'm still listening.
  9. I don't care if it's not in the thread title I'm going to carry on appropriating this place to document stuff that floats. I drove over to Hull KR territory this afternoon to witness the final sailing from the UK of the Pride of York. Delivered in 1987 this was the very last British-built passenger ship of any note. The last of the line in every sense, covid has finally done for the ship, its Japanese-built sister and the Hull-Zeebrugge route.
  10. It's hard to say exactly why but I started getting teary-eyed just watching this.
  11. He would have belonged on the surprised they're still alive thread had I known but alas Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, President of France for seven years before Mitterand. Political father of the TGV and very much a pragmatic pro-European. https://www.politico.eu/article/former-french-president-valery-giscard-destaing-dead-at-94/
  12. Viking Line's Stockholm-Turku ferry the Viking Grace aground near Mariehamn. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-55029358 She appears to have come to grief adjacent to the little path along from the port which is the best place to see and photograph the ships as they come and go for their very brief calls into the main port of Aland (which enables them to claim duty free status and decant round trip passengers on €1 fares who connect to the ship going back the other way). Not a ship I am a massive fan (too busy/congested circulation spaces on every sailing I've done on her, ugly rotor sail on top) but still this isn't good for a company struggling to stay in business during the virus.
  13. So then, favourite Doctors? I probably haven't watched enough Who of all eras to do this properly but what's the internet for if not uninformed but very strongly held opinions. Here's mine ranked. I've excluded non-series long Doctors such as the War Doctor and yes the 8th Doctor. 1. Tom Baker - Still the greatest 2. Peter Capaldi - I loved him, perhaps especially because I'd stopped watching during the Smith era and he drew me back in 3. Jon Pertwee - Legendary 4. Peter Davison - My Doctor 5. Christopher Eccleston - Lots of planets have a north 6. Sylvester McCoy - McCoy + Bonnie Langford - worst of Who. McCoy + Sophie Aldred - some of the best of Who 7. David Tennant - Not as good as Eccleston 8. Patrick Troughton - A bit meh I thought but I know others think different 9. William Hartnell - The original but not the best 10. Jodie Whittaker - I don't hate her but weak scripts aren't helping 11. Colin Baker - Hard to separate actor from role but making the Doctor a complete d**k didn't work 12. Matt Smith - Lacking gravitas, annoying on so many levels
  14. Des O'Connor, aged 88. https://www.itv.com/news/2020-11-15/tv-legend-des-oconnor-dies-aged-88
  15. When I was young and staying up late on Friday night to watch Whose Line is it Anyway Sessions was my favourite. And he seemed youngish Seeing him later on QI etc I wasn't as keen but I can't believe he's gone already.
  16. How easily triggered are you. Deary me. I guess you hated Dr Who in the '70s when it overtly promoted EEC membership and regularly endorsed rather radical forms of environmentalism.
